Five Fun Texas Dog Parks

Texans are well-known as dog lovers, and the majority of people that have homes in the Austin area also have at least one dog.  One of the reasons people have dogs is an inspiration to get out more and get some fresh air and exercise. This article list some of the dog parks around Austin, but our research found that most communities like Bee Cave, Lakeway and Pflugerville have not only city dog parks, but many neighborhoods also have exclusive off-leash areas for residents and their dogs. Finding a fun place to get out with your dog and make some friends is easy in the Texas Hill Country.

Red Bud Isle

Just below the Lake Austin Dam on Towne Lake there is a place for dogs that is not merely a dog park but a dog island. This canine paradise is the perfect place to take your dog for an outing to be remembered. There are no fences, because the water acts as a natural boundary. Dogs and their humans will enjoy an off-leash stroll along the wooded wide trail, dogs especially will enjoy exploring the trees and shrubs in the adjacent patches of forest. There are shallow inlets for dogs who enjoy going for a swim. Warm, flat rocks are there for basking in the sun. Visitors to the park take pride in keeping the area clean and free of trash. There are bags available for cleaning up after your dog. The Friends of Red Bud Isle is a volunteer group that supports and maintains the park. There is limited free parking and also public pay to park spaces on Lake Austin Boulevard. Red Bud Isle Park is located at 3401 Redbud Trail Austin.

Cedar Bark Park

The Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar Park is home to a 5-acre off leash dog park. This well-appointed park offers drinking fountains, benches, a natural dog pond and dog showers In a beautiful park setting. The volunteer group, Friends of the Bark Park, host events and canine festivals, raise funds for park maintenance and purchase equipment for the park. If interested, call 512-401-5500. Cedar Bark Park is located at Veterans Memorial Park, 2525 West New Hope Drive, Cedar Park, Texas. Hours: Sunrise to 10 p.m.  Note that the Bark Park is closed every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for cleaning and maintenance.

Round Rock Dog Depot at Lake Creek Park

This dog park has separate fenced areas for small dogs and large dogs, and a third area for families that features picnic tables. There's plenty of water and shaded areas and lots of room to run for the dogs. Agility equipment is available, there are plenty of on leash walking trails just outside the park. The Dog House Drinkery Dog Park

The Dog House is a pet friendly bar near Leander real estate that serves beer and wine. There are flat screen TVs, a game room and a members-only dog park that has a dog park monitor.  This business has plenty of places for dogs and their humans to spend time together, dogs are always welcome in the bar area. The members only off leash dog park is a fenced half acre of crushed granite that offers access to the bar without having to leave the park. The off-leash area offers plenty of shade, lighting and seating. At the front of the Dog House property there is another 10,000 square-foot off-leash area that is used for various events such as adoptions, yappy hour, birthday parties, training and other canine activities. Yearly membership to the off-leash dog park is $75 and $5 for each additional dog in the same family. Day passes can be purchased for $5 per dog.  The Dog House Drinkery is located in Leander just off FM 1431 at 3800 County Road 175.

The Georgetown Bark Park

Georgetown’s dog park is highly rated by its residents. The park features separate areas for large and small dogs, agility equipment, walking paths, water fountains and pools to cool off in. It has plenty of shaded areas, where friendly people bring their folding chairs to visit with one another while keeping an eye on their dog and his friends. The Georgetown Bark Park is located at 151 S Holly St, Georgetown, TX, US, 78626.

There are many impressive dog parks throughout the Austin area that offer  a range of fun canine activities for your dog and you to enjoy. Many have pools, splash pads and natural swimming areas.  Dog parks are a wonderful way for social dogs and their owners to get out together for some exercise and fun. Be sure to be aware of individual dog park safety rules as well as being a responsible and safe dog owner when you have your pet in an off-leash area.
