The lake is about 67 miles from Austin. Get on TX-1 Loop N. Take the US 183 exit toward Research Blvd. Stay left at the fork, follow signs for US-183 N/Research Blvd N and merge onto US-183 N. Continue onto Route 183A N. Take a left turn onto TX-29 W/W State Highway 29. Turn right onto FM690/Ranch Rd 690. Take a left onto S Chapparal and continue on Bonanza Dr.

Students in Lake Buchanan are served by the Llano ISD and Burnet ISD. Students K-5 attend Llano Elementary grades 3-5 attend RJ Richey Elementary. Grades 6-8 are served by Llano Junior High and Burnet Middle School. High school students attend Llano High School.
