Lakeway History

Lakeway was founded in 1962 by three associates of the Gulfmont Hotel Company. They were given an option to purchase a 2700 acre ranch from a Houston oil man and rancher named Jack Josie. They bought it for the purpose of building a resort community and a hotel. At that time Lakeway Land Company was formed and began to sell real estate in May, 1963. In July the grand opening of the Lakeway Inn and Marina took place. In 1971, Lakeway Land was sold to a Dallas investment group. At this point, 300 homes and 1,000 Acres had been developed. In 1974, a majority of property owners voted to incorporate and became the city of Lakeway.

Lakeway is a robust community of around 15,000 people and growing. It is a growth managed community to ensure that the lake lifestyle it is so well known for continues and it remains a place to get away from the urban hustle and bustle. Things to Do In Lakeway

When Lakeway residents are not working or getting an education, they can find plenty to do in and around the city. With more than a dozen public parks and recreational centers there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, sports, picnics and an array of different playscapes for the kids to enjoy. The city-owned Lakeway Activity Center is a multi-use facility and is used as a venue for civic, social and recreational activities.
